Ashifa’s dedicated approach to make-up as an art form stems from her own artistic background. An early assignment entailed an exhibition of her oil and water landscape paintings, at the University of East London. ‘It’s the technique, the textures and the end results that interest me,’ Ashifa says today, ‘and how you can manipulate colours from soft to sharp for wide-ranging effects.’

From colouring canvas to making up customers, her passion naturally led her into the colourful world of make-up.

‘I like to play with colour and take a bespoke approach. I wanted to be at the forefront, the cutting-edge of the industry, in order to find out the best-looking techniques to bring to my own clientele.’

In the course of her research, she discovered a process that can make a world of difference to anyone’s image: high definition make-up achieved by air-brushing, as used in Hollywood. (The finish is so flawless, photos don’t need to be air-brushed afterwards, therefore making it an ideal choice for bridal to fashion clients alike). Seen by many as the future of make-up application, Ashifa mastered this precise and perfect image-making process through intensive training with Joe Sugar, a former head make-up artist for the BBC, now a top air-brush artist for Hollywood company, Dinair. Ashifa is now one of the very few accredited Asian make-up artists trained in this highly specialised area.
