1. The wedding veil is a superb accessory for a bride’s close-up portrait. You may want to use manual zoom to focus on the eyes, otherwise the auto mode will focus on the veil’s texture.

posing-guide-weddings-01.jpg

2. A very good opportunity for a great picture is photographing the bride or both newlyweds in the wedding car.

posing-guide-weddings-02.jpg

3. The romantic and passionate kiss is another must-have shot from the event. Definitely try to capture both faces including the eyes. Without that you will probably produce a dull shot.

posing-guide-weddings-03.jpg

4. Very easy and kind pose. The newlyweds simply and naturally embrace while bringing their cheeks together. Take care that the bridal bouquet is nicely placed and turned towards the camera.

posing-guide-weddings-04.jpg

5. Another beautiful pose with the groom embracing the bride from the back. The newlyweds may look romantically at each other or straight to the camera. Or they might kiss for an even more affectionate pose.

posing-guide-weddings-05.jpg

6. Just a slight variation of the previous ones, keep the newlyweds close together, but find a way to get a shot from an elevated angle.

posing-guide-weddings-06.jpg

7. In weddings you can’t really go wrong by asking the newly weds to kiss for a shot whenever there is an appropriate moment. They won’t complain anyway!

posing-guide-weddings-07.jpg

8. If possible, arrange an outdoor shot, take some pictures of the couple from a distance and use some open space in a background.

posing-guide-weddings-08.jpg

9. Absolutely easy and a bit more formal pose, creates a calm and intimate mood.

posing-guide-weddings-09.jpg

10. The groom holding the bride in arms, easy to pose, however be careful choosing the right shooting angle – both faces should be visible.

posing-guide-weddings-10.jpg

11. A pose with the groom holding the bride works not only from a distance, but makes a very nice pose for a close-up as well.

posing-guide-weddings-11.jpg

12. Certainly a staged pose – the bride falling into the groom’s hands. But if the newly weds are responsive, poses like that could work out extremely well.

posing-guide-weddings-12.jpg

13. Weddings don’t need to be and sometimes really aren’t at all that serious. Don’t be afraid to make some fun, ask the newly weds to loose their shoes and just run around a bit and snap some frames.

posing-guide-weddings-13.jpg

14. Never forget that there often are good opportunities shooting from the back.

posing-guide-weddings-14.jpg

15. A fun pose with the newlyweds kissing passionately. Pay attention to the wedding dress: It shall look free-falling and natural, as opposed to stuck and creased under the groom’s leg.

posing-guide-weddings-15.jpg

16. A gorgeous pose for a bride’s portrait. The bride should sit on the ground (or a very low stool) with the wedding dress nicely arranged around her. Shoot from above with the bride looking slightly upwards.

posing-guide-weddings-16.jpg

17. Fun and simple pose, the newlyweds clinking champagne glasses. For a more creative shot you could get real close and focus on the glasses, leaving the portraits blurred.

posing-guide-weddings-17.jpg

18. Another creative way to play with a shallow depth of field. Use the widest possible aperture and keep the groom in a distance from the bride. Focus on the bride, leaving him slightly out of focus.

posing-guide-weddings-18.jpg

19. The newlyweds dancing is just another must-have shot. Take pictures with the bride and groom facing towards the camera, making both faces clearly visible. They may look to the camera or at each other.

posing-guide-weddings-19.jpg

20. For some creative results, don’t concentrate only on bride and groom. There are many interesting corresponding objects to shoot, and these photos especially will make the event’s photo album far more engaging. Thus, take separate shots with single objects. Examples are the wedding bouquet, jewelery, clothing details, champagne glasses, wedding rings, wedding car elements etc.

posing-guide-weddings-20.jpg

21. The final point isn’t about posing proper, rather just an idea for a post production. Most probably you will have a bunch of photos from the event, so use them to make a small collage (or several ones). Pick only some objects or crops from other pictures and combine them into a balanced composition. Use some unified filter effects or simply convert them to black-and-white in order to achieve outstanding results. Such collages indeed are pure pleasure to an eye!

posing-guide-weddings-21.jpg

And furthermore take a look also at the other articles in posing series, particularly posing couples. Many of those couple poses can be used perfectly for bride and groom. And, of course, take a look to articles on posing female subjects and posing men. You may find there some appropriate poses for individual portraits.

9 things you need to know if you want to DIY your wedding makeup
Of course we don't think anyone needs to wear makeup on their wedding day (or any other day), but if you're the type who loves a little sparkle, this post is for you…
Bought a new rainbow makeup palette and don't know how to use it? Tribesmaid Marjolijn is here to teach us all! © by xshamethestrongx, used under Creative Commons license.
I'll be doing my own rainbow makeup on my wedding day and thought that it might be nice to share a few of my handy DIY makeup tips…
1. White (shimmery) eyeshadow is your friend!
A touch of white eyeshadow in the inner corner of your eye gives you a more awake and alert look. If you don't have smokey eyes or other more "heavy" makeup, you can do the same for the outer corner. Add a touch of white eyeshadow under your eyebrow, following its curve. I like to start in the highest part of the arch and work from there. It will make your eyes pop more and, again, can make you look more awake.
You can also use white shimmery eyeshadow as a highlighter by sweeping it over your cheekbone, above the line of your blusher. It will give you a beautiful glow and will make your blush look better. Add a tiny touch of white eyeshadow to the centre of your cupid's bow, just under your nose, to make your lips look more full and plump (and kissable!).
2. Don't skimp on the essentials
I love makeup, a lot, so I also have a lot of it. Since I'm not really rich I can't afford the awesome, expensive, cruelty free, totally vegan brands like Urban Decay and Lime Crime. However, there are some things that you should spend a bit more money on, because they will take your look to the next level and make sure it stays on all day.
Glam, rock, and gothic makeup looks FOR MEN
We love us some dudes in makeup. Give us eyeliner and a little contouring any day. Reader Kirstin wanted to see some examples for makeup-wearing... [more]
Make sure you have a good (eyeshadow) primer/base. This will really make sure that your awesome makeup look stays in its spot throughout the entire day. I love Urban Decay's Primer Potion and have splurged on that one.

They're Real! mascara.
The next one to splurge on is mascara. This might sound silly but the right mascara will really complete your look, the icing on the cake and all that. A lot of times I have on my eyeshadow and think "meh," but when I add my mascara it really rocks! Try and find one that works best for your type of lashes and your look and be prepared to spend a bit more. The best one I've had so far were the "Smokey Lash" mascara by Makeup Forever and "They're Real" mascara by Benefit.
The final splurge is on brushes. I'm serious, I've struggled with my blusher for longer than I should have. When I finally found a good, fluffy, soft blush brush it took me half the time to apply my blusher and it looks better than ever. Make sure you feel the brushes before you buy them, don't buy them online. You never know what you'll get.
3. When is your wedding? In what part of the year?
This will affect your makeup. Generally, in the summer you're more tanned, while in the winter you're more pale. Keep this in mind when shopping for the basics like foundation and blusher. What might look great in summer could make you a bit orangey in winter. You can either take a shade lighter and take the chance that it will be alright, or wait until fall to purchase your foundation/blusher.
4. Having trouble with that picture perfect line of eyeliner?

A rainbow of glittery cream eyeshadow!
Try a cream eyeliner with an angled brush. Add a bit of the cream liner on your brush and sweep along the lashline. Tada! You don't want black/brown/blue/the eyeliner colours and instead want something a little more funky (with sparkles!)? Try searching for cream eyeshadow in your awesome colour, it will usually work just as well. Otherwise, add one more layer.
5. Adding eyeliner on your waterline under your eye will make your eyes look smaller
It's better to add eyeliner (or eyeshadow) to the tiny edge under your waterline, between your lower lashes. Don't go all round, just from the outer corner about a third or a half towards the inner corner. Don't forget to smudge! This will give you a more open and approachable look
6. On nail polish…
I know a lot of bottles say that the polish will dry within a minute but if you need to add more than one layer for coverage, wait. For the perfect, (mostly) chip-proof, vibrant colour, wait about 20 minutes between layers. This is how long it takes for the layers of polish to really set. Just watch a movie and add a layer of polish every now and then.
Don't forget your topcoat, this is your best friend. There are many different types of topcoat, find one you like (I'm in love with the sparkly ones and the matt finish, love it!) it will make your polish last twice as long.
Use your topcoat as glue for your rhinestones and other nail-art shineys. Put on a layer of topcoat, press in the rhinestone/shiny/Hello Kitty face and wait until the layer is dry. Add a last layer of topcoat and tada! It stays put without using the pesky glue.
When using a glittery nailpolish, add a layer of clear polish underneath.
You can use your topcoat for this or buy a clear basecoat which will usually also feed your nails. It will make sure the glitters don't get stuck too much on your nails and will make it easier to remove them. Also add a layer of basecoat or clear polish under your reds and blues, these will stain your nails. You know what, just add a basecoat underneath everything, just to be safe.
Still not getting your glittery nailpolish off easily? Soak cotton pads in nailpolish remover and cut them into fours. Press one of these quarters onto your nail and wrap aluminum foil around it to keep it in place. Wait for a few minutes, it should come off easily now.
7. A makeup artist will use different makeup when working on a photoshoot, than for a private party
Your makeup will look different in photos, you may need to add a bit more makeup to make sure the effects will be seen on film. Keep this in mind and take a few test runs. Ask your friend who has a semi-professional camera to do a mini photoshoot and look at the results. What needs to be added? More mascara? More blusher? Try to find the middle ground between "looks good in pictures" and "simple natural look." Of course, make sure you're comfortable with the results: you don't want to feel like a painting on your wedding day!
Also, make sure you see your makeup in daylight and artificial light before the big day
If your pictures will be in daylight, you'll probably still have artificial light on you a big portion of the day. Take that test run and check your makeup under different lighting conditions. Take your mirror and take a walk, how does it look with the light in the hallway? What about the kitchen? The garden underneath the trees or the harsh light in the elevator?
8. Think about fake lashes
Normally, I'm not a big fan (unless they have ridiculous colours and feathers and sparklies!) but I'm seriously considering this. When you have a makeup look that is kind of heavy — like nice dark smokey eyes or a vibrant rainbow look — your look could be enhanced by false lashes. Don't go overboard with length and fullness (unless you love that, of course!) but there are a lot of falsies that just add a tiny bit more volume and still look natural. It will look great in pictures and might just be the finishing touch to your look.
9. Practice, practice, practice!
Seriously, the more you practice the more fluent and natural your look will be. Take the time to practice every single bit of your look and search the internet for more tips and tricks to make your makeup experience easier.

How To Make Bridal Makeup Biography

Prep Your Skin

Wash your face with a mild cleanser to remove makeup, oil, and dirt, then use a gentle scrub to buff off any dry patches. Or, if you have sensitive skin, skip the exfoliant and simply use a washcloth. Blot your skin dry, and spritz on a soothing rose or chamomile toner to add a dewy glow. Then, rather than slathering on a heavy moisturizer, "opt for a gel-based lotion that'll leave your face smooth and help extend the wear of your makeup," says Vanessa Scali, a makeup artist in Los Angeles.
Create a Flawless Canvas

First, select a foundation that's suited to your skin type. Choose a matte finish if you tend to get oily, and go with a creamy formula if you're on the dry side. Steer clear of illuminating formulas, as digital photography is hyper-sensitive to shimmer and can make glowing skin look greasy. Apply a light layer of primer, then use a foundation brush to sweep makeup onto the t-zone. Blend it out to the edges of your face and ears, taking care to work it into your neck and hairline. Then, press it into your skin with your fingers. "This picks up excess makeup and smoothes out telltale lines," Scali says. Finally, keep shine in check by applying a mattifying balm to your T-zone, and sweep translucent powder all over to set everything in place. Throughout the day, use blotting sheets to soak up excess oil without removing your makeup.
Conceal and Camouflage

To eliminate dark under eye circles or shadows on the inner corners of the eyes, reach for a creamy concealer. Apply it with your fingers to prevent residual amounts from sinking into fine lines. For blemishes and pimples, regular concealer just doesn't cut it. Instead, use a camouflage, a type of cover-up that's tacky to the touch. "It's a drier version of concealer that's densely pigmented and less emollient so it stays put and makes anything vanish," says Scali. Apply a tiny amount with a small, pointed brush, and repeat to build coverage if needed.
Prime Your Eyelids

"Eye shadow primers smooth out the skin on the lid, cover up veins, and prevent shadows and liners from migrating for hours," says Julie Harris, a New York City makeup artist. After smoothing it over the entire lid and the eye crease with your finger, dust on a neutral bone- or almond-colored shadow with a fluffy brush.
Apply Liner Like a Pro

For a very defined line, use a felt-tipped liquid liner or a waterproof eyeliner pencil; then to set it, trace the line with a thin brush dipped in a matching eye shadow powder. "For a softer line, apply regular kohl eyeliner before your base neutral eye shadow," says Harris. "The shadow will smudge it out a bit for a diffused look
Budge-Proof Your Blush

Blush often pulls a disappearing act half way through the day. To make it stay put, layering is key. First, smooth a cream formula onto the apples of your cheeks. Then, dust on an oil-absorbing invisible powder to lock in the color. LastlWear Waterproof Mascara

Chances are pretty good that you're going to experience a happy tear or two, so why risk a streaky mess? "Waterproof formulas are the way to go for weddings, but they can dry out quickly and make lashes look spidery if you're not careful," says Harris. To get around this, use a brand new tube on the day of your wedding, and separate your lashes with a lash comb after applying it. Or, eliminate the need for mascara altogether by opting for faux lashes or even long-lasting lash extensions.
y, apply a final coat of powder blush with a large, fluffy brush.
Make Your Lipstick Stay Put

Long-lasting lip products work well, but they often feel thick and dry. The good news? "It's easy to make your regular lipstick last longer and feel comfortable," says Scali. First, prep lips with a moisturizing lip balm, then use a washcloth to buff it -- and any dry skin -- off. Next, fill in lips completely with a flesh-toned lip liner to give your lipstick a base to adhere to. Apply your lipstick with a lip brush, blot with a tissue, and then repeat. Matte lipsticks last the longest, but if you want a hint of shine, layer on a gloss or balm. Just remember, adding these slippery toppers also shorten the lifespan of your color and increases the need for touch-ups.
Skin Shape-Up for the Big Day

Smooth, glowing, flawless skin is every bride's goal. If you have major skin issues to deal with such as cystic acne, rosacea or deep wrinkles, make an appointment with a dermatologist at least six months prior to the wedding. If you have other minor skin problems like blackheads, clogged pores, dullness, or dry patches, then it's best to start seeing a good facialist at least three months prior to the wedding for a once-a-month facial. A facialist can help you with a skincare regime to get your skin into top condition. But monthly facials can add up. If this isn't in your budget consider some easy treatments you can do at home.

As soon as possible, get into the habit of using an exfoliating scrub at least three times a week. This will help unclog pores and get rid of dead skin cells, revealing the fresher, newer skin underneath. All skin types can benefit from exfoliation. If you are oily, try a clay masque once a week to absorb excess oil. Dry skin needs a hydrating mask at least once a week to deep condition the skin and get rid of dry patches. By planning ahead and taking care of your skin, it will be in peak shape
The Wedding Cosmetics Case

You will need a small cosmetics case the day of your wedding containing items that you can use to refresh your makeup. This case should contain the following:

Makeup Remover Pen - to get rid of smudges under the eyes

Concealer - with a wand to quickly dot under the eyes and pat with your fingers

Compact - with powder to matte late-day shiny skin

Oil Blotting Papers - for oily skin this is better than reapplying powder

Lip Liner, Lipstick, and Gloss - to redo your lips

Eye Drops - in case you cry buckets and your eyes get seriously red

Everyday makeup can sometimes be a hassle, so when it comes to figuring out what makeup you should wear for pictures and family photos your head can go into an instant tailspin. That is, until now. We’re here to give you some easy makeup tips so you can look perfect in your next photo, whether it’s professional or just a day out with friends. So let’s begin with prepping your skin, and then we will offer some quick and easy tips for your face, cheeks, lips and eyes.

Skin Prep

Before you begin applying your makeup or concealer you should always start with a good moisturized base for your eye area, face, and neck. This doesn’t mean that you need to switch from your regular skin care routine. Instead just remember to follow your regular skin care regimen before applying your makeup. We also suggest using a deep cleansing or deep moisturizing facial mask two days before you have a professional photo shoot. This will make your skin look more refreshed, and if you do it a couple of days out then anything that erupts from your skin will go away by the time you’re ready for your close-up.

Next you can move on to a good makeup primer. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on a good makeup primer either. One of our favorite primers is from L’Oreal. The L’Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base is very affordable, can be used all over the face including under the eyes, and really works some magic to make your makeup look flawless yet comfortable. Apply an even layer of makeup primer over your face, under your eyes, and blend downward onto your jawline and neck.

Face Tips

Now that you have your skin prepped and primed you can move onto your foundation. We suggest a good photo-ready or high definition foundation. Our favorite photo-ready product is Too Faced Amazing Oil-Free Close-Up Coverage Foundation. It contains light reflectors that help to minimize both pores and fine lines, plus it works wonders under your eyes as a concealer. Speaking of concealer, after applying your high definition foundation don’t forget to use your concealer to cover spots, small blemishes, and to help camouflage dark circles. We recommend a concealer with a yellow undertone to help hide those flaws easier, and one that matches your skin tone closely.

Next you will need to work on your cheeks. Now is a good time to grab a good cream cheek color or cheek stain. This will add a nice color base for any added powder cheek color later. It may seem like color overload, but remember that photos tend to wash out color in the face so you have to make sure you have just the right amount of color showing. We suggest using a base cheek color to give you a nice natural glow, while giving a good base for your powder blush later. Remember to focus the cheek stain on your cheek bones, and blend, blend, blend. After you finish your cheeks set your entire face with a light powder, such as a high definition loose powder or a mineral makeup mineral veil product. We really like the Koh Gen Do Mainfanshi UV Face Powder because it is high definition, but it is also very light and forgiving on the skin so it doesn’t leave you looking powdery. Keep in mind no matter what powder you choose that a little will go a long way, and don’t pile it on or your will look chalky in your photos. Finally, finish up by emphasizing your cheeks with a powder blush and highlighter.

The Eyes

Your eyes should be emphasized, but not too overdone at the same time. So pass on the smokey eye, because it can be too much in a photo and instead find a happy balance of color, liner and mascara. To begin find a good eyeshadow color for your eye color. Make sure to choose a color that suits your style and eye color, but keep in mind that matte shades work better in photos than shimmery or glittery shades. The simplest eye for a photo shoot is to use a single color on the eyelid area going into the crease. Follow this with a light shade as a highlighter on the brow bone.

Eyeliner is a must in photos, but don’t go overboard on the eyeliner either. Keep it simple with a simple and thin line by using a khol black or dark brown eyeliner, or a liquid in the same shades. It’s okay to slightly extend the liner outside of the corner of your eye, but steer clear of cat eyes and long extended eyeliner liners. This will only focus the photo on your eyes instead of your entire face. To complete the eye look apply a thickening and lengthening mascara, but make sure it’s not one that makes your lashes look so big that they look fake. You need to find a happy medium with the mascara, so you can see it in the photos but where it doesn’t look like you’re a Las Vegas show girl. Finally, finish your eyes by cleaning up any fallout that may have collected under your eye area from the eyeshadow or mascara. Do this by gently rolling a Q-tip under you eye area, and then lightly buff with your mineral powder brush.

The Lips

The rule on lip color should follow the overall rule of your entire makeup for photos; don’t go too bold. Again, a happy medium for color is needed so don’t go too neutral or too loud. After all you don’t want to look like a corpse or a prostitute. So begin with a lip liner that is either neutral in color or one that matches your natural lip tone. Line and fill in your lips with the lip liner. Now you have the option of a light lip gloss, a lipstick or both. We would suggest using a light to medium shade of lipstick in a pink or plum shade, depending on your hair and skin tones. Then add a small dab of clear or light pink lip gloss in the center of your lips and gently rub to blend outward. Just remember to look at your lips in the mirror and if you can’t see them at all, or your lips are all you notice, then you need a do-over.

Finishing Up

Remember, when you are having photos taken that it is not the time for experimenting with new makeup shades or trends. Also, don’t forget to pluck, tweeze, wax, or groom the areas of your face the day before so your skin doesn’t look red or swollen the day of the shoot. This is very important for your eyebrows and upper lip area. If your brows look good but you accidentally over-plucked don’t panic. Simply fill in your brows slightly with a good eye brow pencil or brow powder.

Don’t forget to find out the location of the photo shoot. If it is outside you should do a dry-run with your makeup by applying it and then going outside to ensure it looks good in natural light. You may also want to consider a good hydration mist, especially for outside in warm weather. Finally, don’t forget to take your makeup items in a bag in your purse. You never know what may happen where you will need a quick touch-up on your eyes, lips or face.
